Overview

US Youth Soccer is the largest member of the United States Soccer Federation and the biggest national association for soccer in the United States. US Youth Soccer (USYS) is a nationwide body composed of over 600,000 volunteers, in excess of 300,000 dedicated coaches and more than 3 million youth players between the ages of five and nineteen. USYS is the top level in an extensive network of 55 State Associations each belonging to one of the four national regions. As a non-profit and education-focused organization, their mission is to foster the physical, mental and emotional growth and development of America's youth through the sport of soccer at all levels of age, skill and competition.

Goals

US Youth Soccer’s previous website contained a wealth of information that was difficult to organize and access through a complex navigation and sub-site environment. The lack of an effective means to disseminate news, events and state or region-specific content posed a great challenge. One of the primary goals was to improve the ease by which a visitor can locate specific information, unique to each audience type, while minimizing non-relevant content interference. Additionally, the new design needed to optimize sponsorship impact on high traffic pages such as the “Find a Club in Your Area” tool, which is frequented mostly by parents. It was important to add a multimedia section that supports videos and photos while also calling out recent news and events. Additionally, USYS wanted to offer its regional and state associations the ability to use the new platform for their own website needs, essentially offering them a custom and unique website while leveraging the ability to syndicate across the platform.

Summary

In conjunction with the main project revolving around usyouthsoccer.org, Americaneagle.com developed a Tournament Manager for regional & national tournaments, an E-learning course management tool for all their coaches across the country, and an effective intranet for state administrators to manage their day-to-day work. The new site maximizes usability while presenting a clean and attractive layout. An improved navigation bar accentuates the most important items, while making it easy for the user to peruse US Youth Soccer information. Americaneagle.com also implemented the easy-to-use idev® CMS (Content Management System) that allows US Youth Soccer staff to easily and quickly add news, events, and other information. US Youth Soccer is also able to cross-syndicate news and events and other information directly to the State Association members that have a site developed by Americaneagle.com. Since launch, US Youth Soccer has named Americaneagle.com their “Official Technology Partner.” Traffic to the site has increased tremendously and 38 State Association members have decided to have Americaneagle.com produce their respective websites as they understand the value of cross-syndication of news and other useful information from the U.S. Youth Soccer site to the state sites.
