ASAE Annual Meeting 2016 post-show recap

Americaneagele.com recently attended ASAE’s Annual Meeting and Exposition in Salt Lake City, on August 13-16, 2016. This event was held for association professionals and industry partners to network and collaborate and exchange ideas and resources.

Americaneagle.com attends multiple ASAE events each year, and the annual meeting is a great opportunity to meet with clients, hear new ideas and trends, reconnect with partners, and take the pulse of the association industry.

ASAE featured discussions that covered a wide variety of topics and provided an abundance of information to association professionals. For those of you who wanted to attend but couldn’t make it to the event this year, here are some of the key topics that were presented in sessions and ones Americaneagle.com discussed with associations:

Chapter Sites

One challenge we heard frequently was that associations are beginning to understand the need for consistent branding and messaging across their chapter sites, even when those sites are maintained independently. However, many local and regional association chapters don’t have the annual IT budget of their larger parent organization, and don’t require as robust a platform.

Americaneagle.com has had the pleasure of working on numerous chapter sites for associations and clients in a variety of spaces, including the American Dental Association, U.S. Tennis Association, U.S Youth Soccer, and more.

By building out a platform that leverages a templated look and feel with the ability for chapters to still maintain their own identities, Americaneagle.com has helped smaller local and regional chapters take on modern, responsive sites while supporting larger associations’ branding and advertising needs.

Other benefits to chapter sites include:

  • Ability to manage all the sites on a single CMS (content management system) platform, with distinct logins for each chapter to manage its own website
  • Ability to share relevant content easily across all sites
  • Ability to maintain brand consistency while adapting to the specific needs of your target audience
  • Ability to display location-specific content and events

Social Media

Effective use of social media was also an important topic at the ASAE Annual Meeting this year.

One workshop led by speakers from Association Analytics provided association leaders with the opportunity to learn more about social media intelligence, including discussions on monitoring and data.

Speakers from the American Nurses Association also led a session on how to use traditional media to support viral social media movements, in their talk ‘Harnessing the Power of a Social Media Storm’.

Cybersecurity

MaryAnne Bobrow. President of Bobrow Associates, Inc. and Jonathan Howe, President of Howe and Hutton Ltd, spoke together on the topic of cybersecurity.

Cybersecurity is a very important topic for all organizations, and not one to be overlooked. The speakers discussed the importance of being aware of the need for enhanced cybersecurity, and explored risk management strategies.

Americaneagle.com has had the privilege of keeping sites live throughout traffic spikes and have protected many clients against cyber-attacks. We have proudly hosted sites linked to major events, including the WeatherTech.com website during their ‘Big Game’ advertisement.
