Many retailers have been preparing for Cyber week for months – and initial reports have indicated that for most retailers, all the hard work has paid off! The largest online selling days of the year, which start on Thanksgiving, saw big increases across the board.
In fact, Forbes recently reported that consumers have purchased more items online this year, at higher price points than last year.
Read on for more details and statistics on this exciting start to the holiday season.
Black Friday
Black Friday, historically more popular for brick and mortar retailers, is also becoming more and more important for online retailers. While brick and mortar stores still saw plenty of action this Black Friday, ecommerce stores certainly didn’t miss out. In fact, online retailers saw the biggest increase in orders and sales on Thanksgiving Day itself, when most Black Friday deals start. Forbes reported that online spend increased 16.9% YoY on Black Friday.
Cyber Monday
The stats are in and this year’s Cyber Monday was one for the books. Stats show that Cyber Monday was up 16.8% YoY and was the largest US online shopping day in history. On the evening of Cyber Monday, Adobe sent out a press release entitled “Adobe Data Shows Cyber Monday Is Largest Online Sales Day in History with $6.59 Billion”.
The success of the event indicates that the season is looking bright for ecommerce retailers this year.
Americaneagle.com has been excited to share in the success of its clients during Cyber week, many of which saw significant YoY increases in orders and revenue on Cyber Monday.
Mobile
This year, the importance of optimizing your ecommerce site for mobile became clearer than ever. Rakuten Marketing reported that mobile revenue was up 43% year-over-year over Thanksgiving week (November 19th to November 24th) and Adobe noted that mobile has its first $2B day on Cyber Monday with conversions on smartphones up to 10.1%.
Given these stats, it’s clear to see that online shoppers are becoming more and more comfortable with making purchases on the go, from their mobile phones. If your site is not already responsive, now is the time to invest in the technology your customers are demanding.
